DHS Awards $1.8 Billion in Preparedness Grants

The Department of Homeland Security announced approximately $1.8 billion in grants to bolster state, urban area and tribal government efforts to improve the nation’s readiness, response and recovery capabilities for both natural and man-made emergencies. The department will award approximately $3 billion in Fiscal Year 2008, and has provided roughly $25 billion in grants since Fiscal Year 2002 to state, local, and tribal governments, as well as non-profit organizations.

O’ Dell Convenes Inspectors General and Law Enforcement Roundtable

General Doug O’Dell, federal coordinator for Gulf Coast Rebuilding, today hosted a roundtable discussion and press availability with over 40 federal, state, and local inspectors general and law enforcement officials on efforts to combat fraud and crime in post-Katrina New Orleans. The discussion served to further collaboration among all federal and state inspectors general, the New Orleans inspector general, and law enforcement officials on recovery issues related to fraud prevention, public corruption, and law enforcement.
